Pamela Suzette Grier (May 26, 1949) is an American actress, born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Grier became known for starring in a string of 1970s women in prison and blaxploitation films (The Big Bird Cage, Coffy, Foxy Brown, etc.)

Her most notable role is the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 crime film Jackie Brown (she received a Satellite Award and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress). She also played one of the main characters in Showtime series The L Word.

Pam Grier dated NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and stand-up comedians Freddie Prinze and Richard Pryor.

In one of the interviews Quentin Tarantino named Pam Grier cinema’s first female action star.
