America Georgine Ferrera (April 18, 1984) is an American actress and producer of Honduran decent, born in Los Angeles, California.
Ferrera garnered modest success early in her career with roles in films like the Disney original Gotta Kick It Up! and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005); the latter earned her the Imagen Award Best Actress and her first nomination at the ALMA Awards.
Later she switched to TV series and landed the leading part on the ABC comedy drama Ugly Betty. Ferrera garnered critical acclaim and won the Best Actress Awards at various award ceremonies in 2007 including the Golden Globe Awards, the SAG Awards, and the Primetime Emmy Award, the first for a Latin woman in the category. The same year Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Lately she’s been working on the set of NBC comedy series Superstore both as an actor and a producer.
