Alphonso Joseph D’Abruzzo or simply Alan Alda (January 28, 1936) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, comedian and author, born in New York City.

He is best known for the role of Hawkeye Pierce in the television series M*A*S*H. It brought him numerous Emmy Award nomination and 5 awards as well as six Golden Globe Awards. Alan Alda also was nominated for an Oscar for the Actor in a Spporting role (for The Aviator).

He has also appeared on television programs such as The West Wing, 30 Rock, and The Blacklist.

He was working on M*A*S*H not only as an actor but as a writer and derector of dozen of episodes as well.

In 1996, Alda was ranked 41st by TV Guide on its list of 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time.
