Penélope Cruz Sánchez (28 April 1974) is a Spanish actress and model, born in Alcobendas, Spain.

She made her acting debut at 16 on television, and her feature film debut the following year in Jamón Jamón. Later she starred in Belle Epoque, Open Your Eyes, The Hi-Lo Country, The Girl of Your Dreams, Woman on Top, Vanilla Sky, All the Pretty Horses, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Blow, Waking Up in Reno, Gothika, Noel, Sahara, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, To Rome with Love, The Counselor, Murder on the Orient Express and others.

She got a nod for the Oscar for her performance in Volver and Nine. She is the Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress for Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She is the first Spanish actress to win an Academy Award, as well as the first Spanish actress to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Her latest projects include FX series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Penélope Cruz is married to fellow actor Javier Bardem and a mother of two.
