Lois Maureen Stapleton was born on June 21, 1925 in the city of Troy, New York, USA. Daughter Irene Walsh and John P. Stapleton, who came from Ireland grew by strict Catholic canon. Her father was an alcoholic, and his parents divorced Maureen when she was a child.
Upon reaching adulthood, Stapleton moved to New York where he moonlighted as a model to regularly pay the bills. Through familiarity with Hollywood actor Joel McCrea, it gained access to the stage in New York, made his Broadway debut in 1946 in the play ‘The Playboy of the Western World’. After ten years of marriage (1949-1959) and the birth of their son Daniel and daughter Katherine, the couple broke up. Stapleton married for the second time – for the playwright David Ralph. However, the new alliance did not last longer than three years.
